A special Census was conducted in 2007.  The uncertified results are 10,941.  This final number has to be certified by the State of Tennessee by July 1, 2007.

A Special Census was conducted in 2004.  Portland's official, certified population count as of June 30, 2004 was 10,046.  This is up from 8,458 in 2000.

(During the 2004 and 2007 census, all that was counted was the number of people.  They did not collect any data on age, race, sex, religion, etc.  The next full census that will collect this kind of data will be in 2010.)

Please click here to view the year 2000 census data for the City of Portland.  This will open up as a spreadsheet on a separate page.  When you are finished looking at the data, please use your browser's BACK button to return here.

The spreadsheet has three columns:
 Subject (example: people over 85)
 Number (example: 7 people)
Percent (example: 7 percent of the population)
