Objectives

The Portland Lions Club has actively promoted sight conservation in our community for over 50 years. Organized in January 1955, the Lions Club has served the needs of literally hundreds of people through various efforts in the Portland area. We offer the following services to our most disadvantaged citizens:

Free eye-screenings for the local day cares
Eye exams and glasses for qualified residents
Collection of used eyeglasses for redistribution
Hearing aid assistance for qualified residents
$1,000.00 scholarship to a qualified high school or college student

Our programs are continually changing to meet new needs and greater demands, but our mission has never wavered: "We Serve."

Meetings

Our meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month (except for November and December) at 12 noon at the Portland Rotary Hall.

Projects

A Fall Auction and our activities during the Strawberry Festival are our two annual fundraising projects.

The Fall Auction is held on the first Saturday in October of each year. The club is also responsible for organizing and directing the vendor activity at the Strawberry Festival. We also operate a food booth at the Festival.
