Questions & Answers To Help You
Understand the Benefits of Chiropractic Treatment |
What Is a Subluxation?
A subluxation is when one (or more) of the bones of your spine moves
out of position. This can irritate or put pressure on the spinal
nerves. (Spinal nerves come out from between each of the bones in your spine.)
The pressure or irritation causes the spinal nerves to malfunction.
What Does This Do to Me?
The body's nervous system controls all of the functions of your body. If
the spinal nerves are malfunctioning, then signals going out to other parts of
the body will be wrong. The net result is that some parts of your body may
not be working properly because they are receiving incorrect nerve signals.
This can result in a variety of confusing symptoms. For
example, it is quite possible for such things as asthma, high blood pressure,
headaches, backaches and ear infections to really be caused by incorrect nerve
signals being sent out to the body.
It is the job of Dr. Gary Barker, a licensed Doctor of
Chiropractic, to locate subluxations in your spine. Dr. Barker has
undergone years of training to become an expert in locating and treating
subluxations. Once he has located a subluxation, Dr. Barker is frequently
able to reduce its severity or eliminate it entirely. This is done through
a series of chiropractic adjustments.
How Could I Have Gotten a
Subluxation?
Subluxations can be caused by a fall, an accident, improper lifting or
repetitive motions. They can also be caused by emotions (such as anger or
fear) or by chemicals such as alcohol, pollution or poor diet.
What is an Adjustment?
Chiropractic adjustments usually involve a quick thrust to spinal joints.
This can be performed by Dr. Barker using his hands, a special instrument, a
special table or the force of gravity. Chiropractic adjustments enjoy an
excellent track record for their safety and effectiveness.
Are Chiropractic Adjustments Ever
Performed on Newborns and Small Children?
Yes. There are studies which suggest that many infant's problems (such as
unusual crying, poor appetite, ear infections, erratic sleeping patterns) may be
a sign of spinal nerve irritation. Dr. Barker will perform a thorough
examination of the child in which he will learn if and where an adjustment is
needed. Obviously, an adjustment performed on an infant will be extremely
gentle.
How Does Dr. Barker Know if I Have a
Subluxation?
Dr. Barker has the latest state-of-the-art equipment to quickly, accurately and
painlessly determine if and where you have subluxations. The equipment is
non-invasive which means there are no needles. In many cases, Dr. Barker
will run a sensor over your skin. The sensor will pick up nerve signals
and transmit the information to a nearby computer for analysis. In some
instances, x-rays will be taken. If Dr.
Barker determines that you have a subluxation, he will plan a treatment program
especially for you.
Is It Possible I Have a Subluxation
and Don't Know It?
Yes. Dr. Barker can perform a thorough examination to quickly and
painlessly determine the health of your spine.
What Are Some of the Benefits I
Might Get From Seeing Dr. Barker?
Many patients report increased energy, less pain, better posture, less stress,
relief from headaches, better athletic performance, better sleep, more
flexibility in joints, an enhanced immune system, emotional calm and a general
feeling of wellness.
Do Chiropractors Prescribe Drugs?
No. The traditional medical approach puts chemicals into your
bloodstream to change the way your body works. Drugs, as you know, can be
dangerous and have serious side effects. In addition, drugs often tend to
ignore the real cause of the problem. Chiropractic is simple and natural.
The intent of chiropractic is to restore your body's ability to regulate and
heal itself. Without drugs. Without surgery.
