Little League offers teams for boys and girls ages 3-18.
We have both softball and baseball teams.

Purpose of Little League
The purpose of Little League is to assist youth in developing qualities of
citizenship, discipline, teamwork, and physical well-being, with proper guidance
and exemplary leadership.
Founded
Little League was founded in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, in 1939. It is the
largest organized youth sports program in the world.
Federal Incorporation
Little League operates under charter of Federal Incorporation granted under a
bill signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson, July 1964 -- with unanimous
approval of both House and Senate – the highest honor the federal government can
accord.
Little League Week
By Presidential Proclamation initiated by Dwight Eisenhower in 1959, and John
Kennedy in 1961, Little League week was declared the 2nd week of June.
Charter
Terms of charter are issued to each Little League program and extends use of the
words ‘Little League’, ‘Little Leaguer’, ‘Senior League’, ‘Big League’ and
‘Challenger Division’, for every year it is chartered. It does not,
however, grant the right of the league to extend the use thereof to another
person, company, or organization.
Headquarters
International headquarters is located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on a 60 acre
complex. Regional headquarters are located in the United States and foreign
countries.
Little League Museum
The Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum is located on Highway 15 in South
Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Camps
Summer baseball camps operate at International Headquarters and Regional
Centers.
Conferences, Seminars, Clinics
These are held Spring, Fall and Winter for league officials, District
Administrators, umpires, managers and coaches.
Little League Congress
Little League congresses are held every three years at various locations across
the United States and Canada.
Graduates
Little League graduates include more than 2,500 men in organized baseball, 450
of whom are on Major League rosters. To name a few: Mark McGuire, Mike Mussina,
Cecil Fielder, Cal Ripken, Orel Hersheiser, also the President of the United
States, George W. Bush.
Number of Participants
Nearly 3 million youths ages 5-18 play Little League throughout the world.
Little League is in all 50 states and in over 100 foreign countries.
Local League
Portland Little League has been in operation for almost 50 years. The League has
teams for ages 5-18 with a ‘just for fun’ league of 3 & 4 years olds.

Coaches & Volunteers
Anyone wishing to coach, umpire or volunteer in any way, should contact the
president or another board member. You will need to pick up your background check form
and find out about training, program dates, and meetings.
