Ron Harbin, a resident of Portland, has had the #1 Country song in the nation for over 5 weeks! The song is What About Now by Lonestar. According to an article by Byron Edwards in the August 23, 2000, issue of The Portland Leader, Harbin spent his early years working in the oil fields near Bakersfield, California. However, Harbin always wanted to be a songwriter, and in 1986, his wife Kathy encouraged him to move the family to Nashville and pursue a music career. Harbin worked hard at his new career attending song-writing seminars, reading books, and attending "Showcase Nights" at local bars and clubs. Eventually, Harbin became convinced he was not going to make it as a songwriter and moved his family to Portland. Here he opened Dino's Pizza and continued with the restaurant for over four years. During this time, a song Harbin had co-written, Overnight Male, was recorded by George Strait for the movie Pure Country. This was the start of Harbin's music career, and he has had over 50 songs recorded since. Some of Harbin's songs include:

Harbin used to publish through Sony/Tree Publishing, but he now has his own label, Ron Harbin Music. Hardin, his immediate family, and most of his relatives live in Portland. Portlanders are very proud of Hardin, and we wish him well!
