Directions to the Strawberry Festival.
From I-65, take exit 117.
Head east on TN 52 for about 5 miles.
Turn left on TN 109. (There is a traffic light.)
Go a block or two north on TN 109.
Most of the events are near the gazebo (#3 on map.)

Strawberry Carnival at Portland Middle School. May
13-17, 2008. Midway, rides, games, food, and lots of fun! Tuesday
through Friday will be evening hours. Saturday will be all day!
Family Night will be one night during the week, but we don't know which night

Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament. May 13, 2008. The
Four-Person Scramble tournament will be held at
Kenny Perry Golf Course in Franklin, Kentucky. Call the Chamber of

Chamber of Commerce Church Choir Night, May
14, 2008, 7:00 p.m., Portland High School.
Free Admission. For more than 20 years,
the Church Choir Night has been a part of the week of events for the Middle
Tennessee Strawberry Festival in Portland. Call the Chamber of Commerce at

Strawberry Cake
Assembly, 6 p.m., Thursday, May 15, 2008.
Portland will try to break the record for the world's
longest strawberry cake. Main Street, downtown.
Strawberry
Heritage Feature, 7 p.m., Thursday, May 15, 2008. A look back
into the strawberry heritage of Portland will follow the festivities on Main
Street during the evening of Thursday, May 15. A former crate factory worker, a
second-generation strawberry grower and a long-time festival planner among
others will look back at a presentation in the J.E. Kerley Building starting at
7 p.m. Carl Fussell will recall sifting out the inedible berries from the
conveyor belt at the crate factory. Bailey England will recall growing up on a
farm with strawberries a staple of the family income as did Alice Walker, who
spent much of her adult life planning the festival parades. Paula Shannon will
share some family memories and James Wilson will talk about building floats.
The local Cable TV channel will tape this program for future broadcasting, and
refreshments will be served.
\Chamber of Commerce Welcome Day at the I-65 Welcome
Center. May 16, 2008.

Highway 52 Yard Sale, May 16-17, 2008. Tennessee's
second longest yard sale! Over 400 vendors selling who-knows-what along
Highway 52 from Orlinda, across I-65, all the way to Celina. Crosses all of Sumner, Macon and Clay
Counties and passes through Orlinda, Portland, Westmoreland, Lafayette, Red Boiling

May 17, 2008 -
Rotary Pancake Breakfast. The Portland Rotary Club
will be having their annual pancake breakfast from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at
Portland Middle School on South Broadway in
Portland. The breakfast will be inside the school's cafeteria.

Strawberry Parade,
Free. The parade begins at 2:00 p.m. on
Freedom Drive (next to the Public Safety Building), travels down Highway 109
(North Broadway), crosses Highway 52 and ends in the parking lot of Portland
Middle School. The parade is sponsored by the Portland Chamber of
Commerce.

Live music of all types begins at 10 a.m. and continues throughout the day.
The stage is usually set up on Market Street near the railroad tracks.

Please join world-famous recording star (and Portland native) Ronnie McDowell
for an evening of your favorite songs.
At the amphitheater in Richland park. Be sure to bring lawn chairs
and blankets. The entrance to Richland Park is off of Portland Blvd.
Please see #6 ("New Ball Fields") in the map above. There is plenty of
parking, and it's an easy walk to the amphitheater. There are restrooms
available. Here are the times:
5:00 p.m.: Gates open to the public.
5:45 p.m.: Ballroom extravaganza, followed by local musicians
8:00 p.m.: "The Elvis Presley Story." Featuring Ronnie McDowell, The Jordanaires,
D.J. Fontana, and Millie Kirkham.
